June 21 – St. Aloysius Gonzaga: Model of purity and sacrifice

On June 21, the Church celebrates the feast of St. Aloysius Gonzaga , a young Jesuit venerated for his purity, self-giving, and love of the poor. Born in 1568 into a noble family in northern Italy, he voluntarily renounced his title and inheritance to live as a simple monk among the Jesuits. Despite his poor health, he cared for the sick during a plague epidemic in Rome—and became infected himself. He died at just 23 years old and was canonized in 1726. His life testifies to deep devotion to his faith, inner discipline, and radical charity.

He is the patron saint of Catholic youth and students – and a role model for a pure and devoted life.
