June 24 – Saint John the Baptist: Voice of Conversion
On June 24, the Church celebrates the Solemnity of the Nativity of Saint John the Baptist —one of the few saints whose birthday is liturgically commemorated. John was the last great prophet of the Old Testament and the immediate forerunner of Jesus Christ. His message: repentance, righteousness, and preparation for the Messiah.
He lived in the desert, dressed in camel's hair, and ate locusts and wild honey. At the Jordan, he baptized people for repentance—including Jesus himself , whose arrival he announced with the words:
“Behold the Lamb of God, who takes away the sin of the world.”
His life ended as a martyr: he was beheaded for denouncing Herod's adultery. John is the patron saint of Baptists, shepherds, tailors, prophets, and many countries and cities .

The depiction of John beneath the cross, in particular, connects him directly with the suffering and passion of Jesus . It was to him that Jesus entrusted his mother, Mary, on the cross: "Behold, your mother." John thus represents not only the preparation for Christ's path—but also steadfast endurance in suffering .
