June 25 – Saint Maximus of Turin: Voice of faith in uncertain times
On June 25, the Church commemorates Saint Maximus of Turin , one of the most important early church bishops in northern Italy. He lived in the 5th century and was bishop of the city of Turin during the turmoil following the collapse of the Western Roman Empire.
Maximus was not only an outstanding preacher, but also a courageous pastor. In his surviving sermons, he warned against moral indifference and called for active charity—especially in times of social uncertainty. His work is one of the most important testimonies to ecclesiastical life in late antique Italy.
He is considered the patron saint of the city of Turin and an advocate for clarity, courage and proclamation.
