May 28 – St. Germanus of Paris: Bishop of the Poor and Sick

On May 28, the Church commemorates St. Germanus of Paris , a 6th-century bishop distinguished by his extraordinary charity, humility, and love for the needy. Born near Autun in 496, he initially served as abbot before being consecrated against his will as Bishop of Paris. His work was characterized by social commitment: He cared for the poor, the sick, and the oppressed – often against the resistance of the Frankish nobility. His unshakable faith, his healing charisma, and numerous reported miracles made him a revered figure even during his lifetime.
